An evening of Georgian classical music was held on April 4 at Tbilisi State Conservatoire, featuring David Aladashvili, Irine Sherazadishvili (soprano), Irakli Evstapishvili, K. Vardeli String Quartet and Georgian Strings (Georgian Philharmonic).
The concert, featuring works only from the Georgian composers was a true celebration of Georgian music.
Young Georgian pianist, David Aladashvili performs in Georgia on a regular basis. In 2007, he was invited to join the pre-college division of The Juilliard School in New York City. David studied under Matti Raekallio and Jerome Lowenthal, receiving his Bachelor’s in 2012 and his Master’s in 2014.
The evening was opened with miniatures by Sulkhan Tsintsadze performed by the K. Vardeli String Quartet. Four highly skilled musicians set the mood for the rest of the evening.
Aladashvili performed several numbers with Irine Sherazadishvili. One of the songs, called “Earring” was written by Dato Evgenidze for Nikoloz Baratashvili poem of the same name. It was only a second time the song was ever performed. First time being last year at an evening dedicated to Baratashvili’s anniversary.
Aladashvili also performed a sonnet by Otar Taktakishvili with flutist Irakli Evstapishvili. The sonnet requires high skill and exceptional virtuoso from flutists and it’s a part of many musicians repertoire worldwide. David and Irakli were able to deliver the sonnet that has apparent Georgian folk influences.
David addressed the audience and said that the evening was dedicated to the memory of Georgiy Daneliya, a famous Georgian director that passed away that day. David performed with the Georgian Strings “Small Daneliada”, a composition written by Giya Kancheli dedicated to Georgiy Daneliya.
